Tin Pan Alley
at the Captain Nelson Tavern on Sunday 26th September

This tight three piece from the Lancaster area have been together for twelve years and have been Blues Festival regulars since the beginning. They specialise in Stevie Ray Vaughn and Hendrix tunes, with a spattering of Buddy Guy thrown in as a reminder of the recent fabulous headliner. Tanny, the lead guitarist and vocalist, even has a black and white spotty guitar. He can play it too, and we were delighted with some excellent riffs and licks throughout the afternoon.
“This House is a Rockin” had Zolt boppin and boogieing along, his bass guitar reverberating around the pub. Kev, at the back, producing a solid platform for Tanny to lead off on his solo excursions.
We got a beautiful rendition of Hendrix’s “Little Wing” with Tanny out amongst the crowd. This set the scene for a sequence of slow numbers, and a real bluesy and moody “Tin Pan Alley” was one of them. It started off slow but actually turned into an awesomely massive solo spot.
Their version of “Texas Flood” was followed by a blistering solo guitar piece by Tanny, whilst the others took a short break, they then hooked back up while another SRV classic “Pride and Joy” kicked in.
